The major in Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies is comprised of a minimum of 9 courses, configured as follows:

  • WGS 101: Introduction to Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies (required)
  • WGS 280: Feminist Theory (required)
  • WGS 285: Feminist Research Design (required)
  • 6 additional approved courses, two of which must be selected from different academic divisions
  • At least one 300 level course (core or elective) or an Independent Study or Internship in WGSS designed as a capstone experience.

WGSS majors work closely with their adviser(s) to select a sequence of courses that brings focus to their studies and is suited to their particular interests. Students majoring in WGSS are strongly encouraged to participate in a WGSS Internship or Community-Based Learning course and to study abroad, when possible.

Many WGSS majors choose to double major, combining their WGSS coursework with another Lafayette degree.
